This website is not for children and we do not knowingly collect data from or about children.
It’s important that you read this privacy notice together with any other privacy notices or fair processing notices from the organisations who provide the GlobalScot Service. This privacy notice adds to the other notices and is not intended to replace them.
Who we are and other important information
The GlobalScot network is a service managed by Scottish Enterprise. Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national economic development agency. It’s also a non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government. Its headquarters are at Atrium Court, 50 Waterloo Street, Glasgow G2 6HQ, United Kingdom. It also and operates from locations within Scotland and worldwide.
For the purpose of Data Protection Law, the data controller for GlobalScot is Scottish Enterprise. Its Data Protection and Information Governance Officer (DPIGO) handles questions related to Scottish Enterprise and this privacy notice. If you have any questions about the privacy notice please contact the DPIGO using the DPIGO contact details. You can also contact them if you want to use your legal rights relating to your personal information.

Letting us know about changes to your personal information
It’s important that the personal information that we hold about you is accurate and current. Please let us know if your personal information changes during your relationship with us. You can do this by contacting us using the details provided.
Personal information we collect
We collect, use, store and share personal information about you. To help you identify the data, we’ve grouped them together as follows.
Identity data. This includes your title, first name, last name, known as, biography, connection to Scotland, university, job title, voice data, photograph and/or other visual images.
Contact data. This includes your email address, address, postcode, company name, company address, town, country, telephone, LinkedIn profile.
Technical data. This includes your Internet protocol (IP) address, your login data, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform and other technology on the devices you use to access this website.
Usage data. This includes information about how you use our website, products and services.
Marketing data. This includes your preferences related to receiving marketing from us.
Other data we collect
We also collect, use, store and share other data that is not personal information.
Aggregated data. This is where personal information is combined to create statistics or demographic data. We collect, use and share this data for any purpose. For example, we may combine usage data to calculate the percentage of users accessing the site from different locations. Even though it comes from personal data, it’s not considered personal information in law because it does notdirectly or indirectly reveal your identity. However, if we combine or connect aggregated data with your personal information in a way that can identify you, we treat the combined data as personal information. We’ll then use this data in line with this privacy notice.

We use your personal information in different ways depending on whether you are a GlobalScot or a business member.
How we use your information if you’re a GlobalScot
If you’re using the service as a GlobalScot, we’ll collect, use, store and share personal information about you to:
Consider your application as a GlobalScot
Share biographical information (not contact data) with Scottish Government colleagues in the Department of International Trade and Investment
Create and publish a profile on the GlobalScot website
Log any activity against your record, relating to you in your role as a GlobalScot (for example, any support you have provided at events or to Scottish companies)
Provide you with information or communications relating to GlobalScot activities/events or any changes to the GlobalScot network
Inform you of a request for support from a registered business member on the GlobalScot network
Allow network members to search and contact you
Maintain our records and ensure information is up to date
Answer your enquiries

Create and publish podcasts and other recorded material, and use your image and/or biography alongside this

How we use your personal information if you’re a business member
If you’re using the network as a business member, we’ll collect, use, store and share personal information about you to:
Create and publish a profile on the GlobalScot platform
Log any requests you’ve made or any other engagement on the website
Provide you with information or communications relating to GlobalScot activity/events or any changes to the GlobalScot network.
Share your details with GlobalScots
Connect you to a GlobalScot that you’ve submitted a request to
Answer your enquiries

We also monitor data about how you use our website.
If you want to access other services from either Business Gateway, SE or Scottish Development International, you may have to provide additional information depending on the service you’re accessing. Details of any additional data collected, and its use, will be described in the privacy statement related to the organisation and the service. Lawful grounds and what it means
Data Protection law says that we must have a legal reason to process your personal information. These are known as lawful grounds, and there are 6 of them. One is that a user has consented to their data being processed. For this reason, we’ll always ask for your consent to process your personal information for the purposes in this privacy policy.
If you don’t provide personal information
If you apply to become a GlobalScot and don’t provide your personal information,your application will be denied. You won’t have access to the network.
If you want to register to join as a business member and don’t provide your personal information, you won’t be able to complete registration. You won’t have access to the network.
How long we’ll keep your personal information
If you leave the GlobalScot network, your personal information, including any direct messages or comments left in forums, will be removed from globalscot.com with immediate effect. We may retain some of your personal information for our records for a maximum of 12 months. If you do not want us toretain your personal information for our records, you can tell us when you leave the network.
If your application to become a GlobalScot is rejected or if you stop being a GlobalScot, we’ll keep your personal information for a maximum of 12 months unless you tell us not to.
Protecting your data outside the UK
Scottish Development International (SDI) is Scottish Enterprise’s overseas arm. Our partners in SDI are the Scottish Government, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and South of Scotland Enterprise. We might share your personal information with our SDI field offices. This may involve transferring your personaldata outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Where your personal information is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:
We will only transfer your personal information to countries that have beendeemed to provide adequate level of protection for personal data by the European Commission.
Where we use certain service providers we may use specific contracts approved by the European Commission which give personal information the same protection it has in Europe.

Our employees, agents and suppliers will only process personal information if they’re asked to by us. They’ll always follow the privacy policy and they’re also subject to a duty of confidentiality.

Correcting your information. We want to make sure that your personal information is correct, complete and up to date. You can ask us to correct any personal information about you that you don’t think meets these standards.

You have the right to ask us to stop using your personal information at any time. All such requests are unique and will be subject to review and decision making will be based on the impact of the request on the site and the service. If you ask, we’ll stop using that personal information unless there are genuine grounds to continue. We’ll let you know if that is the case.
Withdrawing consent using your information
Where we use your personal information with your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. We’ll stop using your personal information for the purpose(s) for which consent was given.
